Gardener's Code of Conduct

We aren't big fans of legalese and restrictions, but let's face it, we've got no choice but to set a few "ground rules".

Each Gardener will be required agree to the following Code of Conduct and sign a waiver of liability before a plot will be assigned.

Newly revised Gardener's Code of Conduct as of January 2022. All returning or prospective plotholders must read, sign, and return a copy of the signature page to the Garden Coordinator along with the appropriate fees. (Cash is preferred.)

The Oakley Seniors Citizens grievance policy will apply in the event that there is any disagreement that needs to be resolved. (unless or until replaced by an OCG specific grievance policy, the title "Farm Manager" in the policy is equivalent to our "Garden Coordinator", and "Operations Manager" is equivalent to our "Chair".  Currently both positions are held by the same individual.)

We value your questions and comments about these commitments and regulations.  For comparison sake, here are a few of the other community gardens rules we looked at, reviewed, and in some cases shamelessly plagiarized while formulating our code:

“Community gardens have the potential to foster a sense of community identity, ownership and stewardship.  They can provide a place for people of diverse backgrounds to interact, share cultural traditions and exchange knowledge related to gardening, cooking, nutrition and health. I find gardening a great way to level the stress in life, ripping weeds out of the ground can be a cathartic experience.”

- Mayor Kevin Romick.

"The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul".

— Alfred Austin
