The April 15th meeting of the Oakley Community Gardens and Farms Taskforce saw tremendous progress toward the dream of opening the Community Gardens.
We were able to sign a contract with Slow Food Delta Diablo, establishing them as our fiscal sponsor! This will allow us to move forward toward securing insurance and a lease agreement with the city of Oakley. Shelley Somersett and Gail Wadsworth of Slow Food demonstrated a depth of knowledge and commitment to the ideals of enhancing access to healthy and delicious foods in our community. We look forward to working closely with them as we move forward.
The structure of the Gardens was further strengthened by the nomination and acceptance of Kaitlin Abbruzzi to serve as Co-Manager of the Moura Community Farm alongside our Chair, Paul Seger.
Our goal of having a finished lease agreement to present to the city council on April 22nd will have to be pushed back, as there isn't time to complete everything in time to meet the deadline for placing it on the agenda. Our new intention is to present to the city council on May 13th.
